In the Frame: Feathers!

Add a little whimsy to your spring style with FEATHERS!

Shot by the super-talented Iain Gallagher. With special thanks to Sojos Vision for gifting these gorgeous cat eye classic frames in both black and tortoiseshell!

Wearing feathers may strike fear in your heart - What if they stare? Will I look like Barbara Cartland? I have nothing to go with feathers! Where would I even wear a feathered outfit? STOP! I’m going to show you just how wearable feathers can be. And they’re so much fun, it would be silly not to!

When I spotted this feather-trimmed co-ord in Zara back in February I just knew I had to have it! The print - so Prada! The feathers - sooo Prada! and the price - soooo Zara! They could be the comfiest and easiest to wear feather-trimmed pieces EVER! They are knitted and the top flows beautifully over the tummy, upper thighs and hips to conceal and shield any lumps or bumps you’re not in a hurry to show off. The colour palette is muted, with a nod to neons - one of the most surprisingly enduring trends to carry through from AW18 to 19.

Styled for Day

By picking out the neon yellow and adding matching accessories (all my own from a few years ago), I’ve made the whimsical feathers more daytime-appropriate - especially when worn with these neon ballerinas.

My tortoiseshell, cat eye Sojos Vision glasses match the chunky tiger eye ring and reflect the warm beige in the print beautifully. Adding the neon is a fun way to keep the look über on trend, but it styles equally well with black accessories - see below!

Necklace: Nordstrom Rack [old, similar here]; Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs [old, similar here]; Sunglasses: Sojos Vision; Ballerinas: Banana Republic [old. Yellow option here]; Ring: custom [old, similar here] Bracelet: Dinny Hall [old, similar here]

…and After Dark

With a couple of subtle tweaks this 2-piece can be amped up to the max for evening. Given the unpredictable climate here in the UK, even during summer, it’s great to have a long-sleeved outfit that doesn’t need to be covered up with a jacket - all the easier to see those feather-trims!

I’ve swapped out my chunky necklace for super-long tasselled earrings, and my flats for these statement, pom-pom-trimmed cage heels (my own from several seasons ago, as luck would have it, trimmed in neon yellow)! While nighttime may not be the right time for sunglasses, it is summer, and it stays light here in Scotland until after 11pm on sunny days, so it pays to go prepared for sunset drinks with these black, lacquered cat eye glasses, also by Sojos Vision.

Sunglasses: Sojos Vision; 2-piece: Zara here and here; Shoes: River Island [old, similar here, feather option here, neon option here]; Earrings: New Look [last season, feather option here].
