Purple Reign

Traditionally symbolic of royalty, luxury and creativity, the colour purple is having a fashion moment. As a lifelong colour lover, I hate to play favourites, but purple - and its milky pastel sibling, lilac - have always held a special place in my heart! As arresting as it is uplifting, purple has the power to calm the mind and stimulate innovation, it is not a colour for the shrinking violet (pardon the pun)! But if you’re in a style rut, or you simply want to turn some heads, my advice? Wear PURPLE!

Tone on Tone

Its no secret I’m a fan of top-to-toe, tonal looks. All too often I see beautiful colours depleted by their pairing with black. This tends to ‘kill’ the hue, deadening it, sucking the light and, in my opinion, the life out of it. My preference is to pull a look together with either contrasting colours that pop, or with layered tonality, as I have here, allowing the colours to radiate out from one another.

Column of Colour

As a former student of architecture, I’d be remiss if I didn't comment here on the beauty of these fluted, ionic columns. Just as in classical architecture, in fashion, a column of colour will always look elegant, sophisticated and carefully considered. Adding a dramatic organza pussy bow is like the scroll of an ionic column - decorative yet demure!

It’s the little things…

Breaking down the details:

  1. These multi-tonal shoes pull the entire outfit together as they contain all the other tones in the look. They’re old, but my advice is to look out for pieces like this and buy them in the sales. A shoe like this can be the catalyst for a whole new look #startwiththeshoes !

  2. My glasses were gifted by Sojos Vision. I’ve linked similar-coloured ones below…

  3. I love a pussy-bow! It adds drama and draws attention to the face. A statement necklace or chandelier earrings will do the same job.
