Perception | A-JANE SS20 Show Review

A-JANE riffs on signature, a-symmetric brights offset with bold monochrome, while matte silver chimes with a teflon-coated future…

With thanks to A-JANE and Fashion Scout for inviting me, and to show photographer, Simon Armstrong for these super images!

3-D Pleating Effect

With a background in musical composition, ‘Fashion Composer’, Alice Jane, is a master of fabric pleating, employing cutting-edge techniques to create a futuristic, 3-D effect that is at once sculptural, a-symmetric, and exquisitely feminine. Constructed predominantly in fabulously-folded cotton, these looks were as modern as they were multi-faceted. Paired with minimal, geometric flatforms or zebra-print ankle boots, there wasn’t a teetering-heeled model amongst them - refreshingly NOW (and I speak as a self-confessed heels-lover)!

Bright As Funk!

The A-JANE predilection for bold brights was once again front and centre for S/S20. This time, warm, near-neon orange and yellow dominated. Bolts of blue popped against these juicy hues, while fresh whites, streaks of black and monochrome prints provided the visual foil that kept each look anchored and highly wearable.

This matte metallic brought to mind the silver foil chocolate wrappers that I like to fold, origami-style, when savouring the sweet treats they encase! Arresting, scrunched-up pieces were grounded with black or a bright shoe, a yellow strap, an orange panel… This served to break down the futurism and bringing a critical cohesion to the collection.

The Clash

Designed in-house, the season’s bold prints were clashed with equally bold silhouettes. The trapeze dresses in graphic Dalmatian-esque monochrome and organically-shaped Harlequin were unexpectedly symmetrical, flowing from above the bust or just below the clavicle, respectively. Elsewhere, jackets sported mismatched hems and necklines in exponentially-magnified prints.

Volume Down and Final Walk

Muted colours did make a brief appearance on this otherwise boldly-coloured and patterned runway. Having said that, I LIKE IT LOUD! How about you?

Leave your thoughts in the comments if you’ve time!

Thanks
