Styling the Colour of the Season for Day and Night…

Shot by John Murray

For a colour junkie like me, there’s nothing quite like finding a new shade you love!

The fact that it’s an incredibly on-trend colour is a sneaky bonus, as there are lots of items to find out there in stores just now, from late summer sale pieces, to the new season options that are trickling through online and on the high street.

I don’t wear green a lot, but when I do, it’s all about the tone. As a rule, I love clean brights, and this vibrant emerald is no exception. It works beautifully with white, pink, red, orange and gold, so it offers a wealth of styling options too.

The trick to wearing colour is finding a tone you love and then getting the placement of it on your body right. If a colour drains colour from your face, for example, you can still wear it, just not right next to your face - break it up by placing the colour on your lower half, or by wearing a scarf or statement necklace.

Make up is also incredibly significant when wearing colour. I always consider what I’m wearing before choosing my lipstick and blusher (in fact I often use my lipstick as blusher to ensure colour harmony). With this bold green, this orangey red lip was a no-brainer. Of course pink would also work, but with the gold hardware on the shoulders, the red option wins hands down.

Daytime dressing is easy when you know how. The Zara summer dress below is simplicity itself! With the mix of green and white in the print, I can happily pull out all my bright white accessories and shoes and be sure they’ll work. Statement earrings, white trainers or wedge sandals, white tote bag. Look for prints that contain white, as you’ll never find a better, more versatile option for holiday packing than white shoes, jewellery and bag!
